President's Message

Welcome to the 17th Annual Scientific Meeting of Thai Medical Physicist Society held on January 30-31, 2026 at Hotel VELA Dhi, Nakorn Phanom, Thailand. The Theme of the Conference is "Medical Physics and Emerging Technologies: Shaping the Next Decade"

History of Nakhon Phanom: King Rama I gave the name - Nakhon Phanom, "city of mountains". There are no mountains at all within Nakhon Phanom itself! They are the Limestone Mountains being concentrated in the city of Thakhek (เมืองท่าแขก) in Laos on the other side of the Mekong River. Nakhon Phanom is described as a city where mountains can be seen.

During the 12th BE century, this great area was called the Kingdom of Sikhottaboon (แคว้นศรีโคตรบูรณ์), but the kingdom went into decline and fell under Khmer rule in the 16th century. In 1766, the city of Marukhanakhon (เมืองมรุกขนคร) was moved across the Mekong River to its present site on the Thai side. The city name has been changed to Nakhon Buri Ratchathani (นครบุรีราชธานี) until renamed by King Rama I to its present name.

The provincial seal shows the pagoda of Phra That Phanom in That Phanom District. Originally constructed around 535 BE in Khmer-style, but it collapsed in 1675 and was rebuilt in Lao-style. The provincial slogan is "The city of the revered Phrathat Phanom, cultural diversity, beautiful Phutai people, brilliant illuminated boat procession and picturesque Mekong River". The city famous event is locally known as Lai ruea fai (ไหลเรือไฟ), "floating a fire boat". The visit to the Naga Monument on the bank of Mekong River is welcome at any time.

The Congress scientific program will be started on January 30th,- the Pradub Atthakorn Memorial Lecture after the opening ceremony followed by the invited lectures, proffered papers, symposium and commercial presentation. Tentative Gala dinner is organized on 30th January evening via Me Kong River cruise with dinner and entertainment.

On January 31, the Department of Health Service Support (กรมสนับสนุนบริการสุขภาพ), Ministry of Public Health will arrange the program with the encouragement to change our license type of ศาสตร์ to สาขา. Please attend and decide about the benefit obtained from the new license type. Proffered papers from medical physics graduated students will be set in the afternoon of 30th January for 3 fields. Lunch Symposium /Vendor talks of advance development, Commercial Exhibition are available at the Congress. Last but not least, the credit hour for member to renew the MP National License will certainly be prepared for you. See you all on January 30-31, 2026 in Nakorn Phanom, Mekong River Thailand!
